Learn About Us
ONE STEP AT A TIME
The transformative learning experiences at Early Bird Exploration Academy are designed to help our students grow both in and out of the classroom. Early Bird Exploration Academy is located on the serene campus of Friends Meeting School in Ijamsville, MD, just minutes from Urbana, Monrovia, Clarksburg, and Damascus. Our nurturing, dedicated, and knowledgable educators promote learning and independence through exploration using prompts to allow the children to expand on their own thoughts and interests. Using a combination of The Reggio Emilia Approach to Learning, Maryland State- approved Creative Curriculum, and Montessori teaching strategies, our educators guide the learning process one step at a time as children are ready to receive it.
EARLY BIRD EXPLORATION ACADEMY
Early Bird Exploration Academy supports exploration, experimentation and imaginative play where children are active participants in learning and where parents and families are encouraged to be involved in their children's daily learning experiences. Our approach to early learning focuses on core values of compassion, confidence, respect, and stewardship. The Academy strives to make education a fun and unique experience for all children.
Outdoors at Early Bird
EXPLORING NATURE ONE STEP AT A TIME
Educators at Early Bird Exploration Academy recognize that nature can be a very effective classroom. Curriculum-based lessons are explored daily indoors and outdoors using the various learning spaces available to our children and educators. Educators use the vast outdoor spaces to encourage children to use all senses during the learning process.
Outdoor play at Early Bird provides our children with an opportunity to explore their natural curiosity in a safe and structured environment.
About Early Bird Exploration Academy
Life at Early Bird
THE EARLY BIRD EXPERIENCE
We have created a safe and accessible environment where children are encouraged to explore, communicate, and practice skills to promote independence. We give our students the foundation to bring their potential to life by learning through multiple styles and hands-on experiences.
Our Early Bird Educators are aware that the relationships and bonds with teachers and other children play a key role in the experiences of each child and family at Early Bird Exploration Academy. Families are encouraged to get involved in their children's learning process and life in preschool through ongoing communication, volunteering in the classroom and with special activities.
AGES 2-3.5 YEARS OLD
Our Songbirds are the youngest members of our Early Bird family. Through the use of imaginative play, music, practical life and sensorial learning, and art, our children are learning to make sense of their world. Our educators place an emphasis on independence, grace, courtesy, and manners. The Creative Curriculum guides our teachers through the formal learning process, focusing on language, literacy, math, science, and social studies.
AGES 3.5-5 YEARS OLD
Our Bluebirds are developing skills to prepare for Kindergarten through hands-on learning, imaginative play, practical life, sensorial learning experiences, exploration and the use of open-ended materials. They continue to practice grace, courtesy, and manners as they prepare to leave our nest and enter the world of elementary school.
Children are placed in the Bluebirds classroom based on their individual social and academic readiness rather than solely based on their age. During the initial visit at Early Bird, we will discuss recommendation for classroom placement with parents.
EAGLES (SUMMER PROGRAM)
AGES 5-8 YEARS OLD
Inspired by our children's interests, our qualified and skilled educators plan unique and hands-on activities. Our children take part in an innovative summer program that includes art, music, cooking, engineering, geology, zoology, history and more.

LEARNING ANOTHER LANGUAGE
Early Bird Exploration Academy understands that learning a second language as a child positively impacts attention span, and provides cognitive advantages that can contribute to future academic success.
Through the guidance of a structured curriculum, our children enjoy daily Spanish lessons, taught through songs, dance, video, and interactive activities.
Our bi-lingual staff engage children in conversational Spanish throughout the day.
